  • Where do Creative Gourmet berries come from?

Our Blueberries come from Chile, Strawberries, Raspberries and Blackberries from China and Cherries from Turkey. For the Mixed Berries, the Blueberries are from Chile and the Blackberries, Raspberries and Strawberries are from China.

At Creative Gourmet we source our berries and fruit from all around the world, according to our strict quality criteria. We are Australia's biggest supplier of frozen berries, handling over 1,000 tonnes of fruit each year. The majority of berries are grown in 'cold climate' countries, and there's simply not enough volume available from growers in Australia to supply the quantities we need.

Our buyers carry out regular inspections with all our suppliers to ensure the quality and value that we demand and we ensure all our berries are subject to stringent testing to comply with all relevant Australian Food Standards.

All our berries are snap frozen at the time and place of harvest, to lock in the flavour and goodness. We insist on best practice processes throughout our grower and supply network.

    .

  • Are there dangerous sprays on Creative Gourmet fruit?

No. All of our berries are subject to standards set by Food Safety Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) - the peak body regarding food safety in Australia, which set out exactly what is allowed and not allowed, regardless of whether the fruit is locally grown or imported from another country. We require our suppliers, regardless of the country they are based in, to committ to conform to these standards.

Importations of berries are also subject to routine random inspection by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) in which samples are tested for pesticide residues. If any residues greater than the allowed level are detected the shipment is rejected by AQIS and the fruit must be destroyed.

In addition to the random AQIS inspections we require an analysis of samples from the harvest from each processor to confirm they comply. Our berries are tested at a minimum of 3 stages of the supply chain. As a raw material prior to packing, as a packed product prior to shipping, and when arriving into Australia, prior to acceptance.

Our efforts are put into ensuring that we only deal with farms who can demonstrate compliance to Good Agricultural Practices. We also have our own staff audit the growing fields and practices, as well as requiring independent audits of the farms.

  • Why is sugar mentioned in the nutitional panel? Does Creative Gourmet add sugar to their fruit?

No, we don’t add any sugar or syrups to our berries.
All fruit, fresh and frozen, contain natural sugar. This sugar is mainly fructose sugar, which has a lower GI than table sugar (sucrose). The rest of the carbohydrate is mainly the natural fibre in fruit and berries. Over all, compared to most other snacks, the sugar content is actually quite low and so are the total energy levels, making berries perfect for people who are controlling their blood glucose levels or watching their weight.

  • How do I store Creative Gourmet Berries?

Always store your Creative Gourmet berries frozen. For best results:

    • Store frozen berries and fruit in your freezer as soon as possible after purchasing to prevent them from defrosting.
    • In hot weather, it’s best to transport frozen berries and fruits in a chiller bag so it stays as cold as possible.
    • Store Creative Gourmet frozen berries and fruits in their re-sealable bag in your freezer. To keep them in top condition and prevent them from becoming icy, do not place on the door in the freezer. Instead, store in the main freezer compartment where it is the coldest.
    • Once frozen berries and fruit are defrosted do not refreeze them (as they will not have the same juiciness and texture).
    • Creative Gourmet frozen fruits have a long shelf-life when stored correctly in your freezer. Check the box for the Use-By date.

  • I am having trouble finding one of my favourite Creative Gourmet products, can you help?

Sure. Go to the product range section of our home page and click on the product you are interesting (tip: if it isn’t there we no longer range it). Look for the “ Where to buy” section which will tell you what retailers stock that product. If you go to that retailer and still can’t find it, please ask your store manager.

  • What is a BBD and where can I find it on my Creative Gourmet Pack?

BBD stands for "Best Before Date" and is located underneath the barcode on the back of pack.

  • Where do I find specific nutrition / allergen information for your products?
